The worst has happened in the past 2 years, Seemingly, the years of destruction created by God. Be it the pandemic, forest fires, floods, or health problems, everything has been at its peak since March 2020. And now it’s time for Earthquakes to show their level of damage. These years are like a reminder from the almighty to not take life for granted and to appreciate the little things in life.

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake has hit roughly 7.5 miles northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud, on the South West Coast of Haiti, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. Then, 20 minutes after the first quake, a 5.2 magnitude tremor struck the island.

The quake struck the country at roughly 8:30 a.m. local time, about 150 km west of the capital, Port-au-Prince. The authorities have confirmed three deaths over there because of the earthquake and several were found injured. A tsunami threat due to the earthquake is warned, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center. “Based on all available data … Hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts,” per the center.

Prime Minister Ariel Henry has also stated that he has been mobilizing all available government resources with them to help more and more victims in the affected areas.

Through the reports, it has been found that the epicenter of the quake was about 125 kilometers (78 miles) west of the capital of Port-au-Prince, the U.S. The Geological Survey said, and widespread damage was found around the area.

Flooding appears to have started in the country, which has raised the risk of more damage following the earthquake. One earthquake wasn’t just enough to cause so much damage. Now the people have to save themselves from another survival round called- The Floods.

Videos on social media show widespread damage and distressing voices. The videos have been surfacing all over the internet ever since the disaster happened. It’s sad how difficult survival is on this planet.

“I extend my sympathies to the parents of the victims of this violent earthquake which caused several losses of human and material lives in several geographical departments of the country,” said Ariel Henry, Haiti’s new prime minister.

“I can confirm that there are deaths, but I don’t yet have an exact toll,” Jerry Chandler, Haiti’s director of civil protection, told AFP. “We’re still collecting information.”

Frantz Duval, editor-in-chief of Haiti’s Le Nouvelliste newspaper, tweeted on his Twitter handle saying that two hotels were among the buildings which have been completely destroyed in the town of Les Cayes. He even said that the local hospital was overwhelmed.

“Slowly, strongly and for very long seconds the earth shook in Haiti on 14 August 2021 around 8:30 am,” he wrote.

We pray for those who lost their lives in this Earthquake.
