Janardhanan Pattiery, 57, and Minija, 52, from Kerala’s Kozhikode district, were living in Abu Dhabi for nearly 18 years, reported the Khaleej Times. While the wife was working as Chartered accountant the husband had recently lost the job in a travel agency that he was working in Abu Dhabi.
“They were calm and quiet people. I don’t remember them having any issue with anyone. Pattiery had lost his job. Earlier they had sold their car. All friends and colleagues are shocked. This is unexpected,” the report quoted a family friend as saying.
The report further claims that the couple’s only son who studied in Abu Dhabi is presently working in Bengaluru who is extremely distraught at the moment. “Like all of us, he does not know what went wrong. He is now waiting to receive his parents’ mortal remains at the earliest,” said one of the friends of deceased couple.
According to the Gulf News, a close friend of an Indian expatriate found dead along with his wife here last week said he had not known of his friend’s job loss or of any other turmoil in the couple’s life. “I spoke to [Janardhanan Pattiery] last week, but nothing seemed amiss then. In fact, we are all very shocked and saddened. I had known [Pattiery] since childhood, and this is a big loss,” the friend, who declined to be named narrated the story to Gulf News.
The news of their demise came into the light when their son tried contacting his parents and found their phones switched off. “Their phones had been switched off and the son, who is employed in Bengaluru, could not contact them. Based on the couple’s son’s request, police broke open the door and found them dead,” he had said.
The cause of the death is not yet known as the investigation is underway but in the meanwhile a social worker is taking all the efforts to repatriate the mortal remains back to their native place in India.
