A COUNTRY WHERE CHILDREN ARE TAUGHT TO RESPECT AND VALUE TEACHERS AS SECOND PARENTS THIS COMES AS A VERY SHAMEFUL ACT. TWO GIRLS, STUDENTS OF CLASS VI WERE FIRST INSULTED FOR THE BAD GRADES AND LATER STRIPPED IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS. THE MOST SHOCKING THING HERE IS, THIS ACT HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY THE LADY TEACHER…
The incident occurred in a private secondary school at Landaura that is 8 km away from Roorkee. As the test results were handed out to the students the two girls were called out and shamed by the teacher for their low performance and later stripped.
The parents of the students were informed about the incident for which they protested and filed a police case against the woman teacher under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.
Putting more light on the incident, Superintendent of Police (rural) Manikant Mishra said “Parents of both girls alleged that the teacher first reprimanded their daughters and then took off their shirts in front of the entire class, as they had performed poorly in an English test. When the girls reported the incident to their parents, they went to the school and protested against the teacher. A police officer reached the spot and pacified the parents. We have registered a case against the teacher under section 509 of the IPC.”
The incident has prompted the education department to ask schools in the district to introduce training courses for teachers on “appropriate conduct”
One of the victim’s father demanded strict action against the school administration for not having proper security measures and said there’s an immediate need for installation of CCTVs in classes to ensure that such incidents aren’t repeated by the teachers again.
Reacting to the situation the district education officer, Braham Pal Singh Saini said that action has been taken against the teacher and she has been asked to leave the school. There will also be a course started for teachers on appropriate conduct towards the students.
In these growing times, it is absolutely necessary for people to educate their kids. But, incidents like these make us think, what price are the children paying? Education is vital but they shouldn’t be pressurized to be on top all the time. Do you think our education system needs to change and focus on all parts of growth and not just marks?
