In the earlier days, people would go to the Himalayas to attain the Sannyasa (Renunciation) wherein they would give up all the luxuries of their life. Now it looks as if the times are changing and the word ‘baba’ has become the title of a game ruling the country. Some Baba’s are also advisers to the heavyweight politicians, and some have become business tycoons. But, one thing is common amongst all of them, they have accumulated huge amounts of assets, that is spread across the world in their names.
People in our country still believe in these Godmen and aren’t ready to hear anything against them. The story which started with the arrest of the biggest Godman of our country Baba Asaram Bapu has come to the midway with the arrest of Ram Rahim who was convicted of raping two of his lady disciples while in the Dera.
The arrest of Baba Ram Rahim was the biggest challenge in front of the State as well as Central government, and Baba made sure that no one would dare arrest him, as it was not possible to go inside the Dera and arrest him surrounded by millions of Bhakts (followers) inside the Dera. But as we know, politicians are above all, and one of them convinced Baba that he wouldn’t be arrested and that he only needs to attend the court. That was the end of the story for Baba Ram Rahim.
Once he went inside the jail, hundreds of facts started surfacing and the biggest of them all is about a number of assets Baba made for the Dera. According to the report published in the national daily India Today Baba has accumulated a huge amount of asset for the Dera to the tune of Rs. 1,600 crores. The publication claimed that a report that ML Khattar Government will be submitting to the Haryana and Punjab High Court, says that Dera Sacha Sauda, the controversial sect run by Ram Rahim, has been valued at Rs 1,453 crore.
But the above figure is only of Sirsa, the headquarters of Baba Ram Rahim but if you calculate the assets owned by Baba in the country & across the world, the value goes beyond the imagination. How did a Sannyasi accumulate such a huge amount of assets still remains a mystery, but whatever information we have gathered from the reliable sources, will tell you as from where and how he managed to get such a huge amount of assets.
Although Haryana government has estimated the value of properties owned by Baba is around Rs. 1600 crores but the actual value of it is estimated to be around 1.5 times higher compared the government rates. Baba Ram Rahim who was ranked 96th in the Indian Express List of 100 most powerful Indians in the year 2015, with this you can identify his credibility.
The report published in Jansatta claims that Baba’s estimated earnings (in white) is Rs. 60 crore per annum and Dera enjoys a tax exemption under Section 10(23) in the Income Tax Act 1995. Besides the above, Ram Rahim would also make money from the movies that he produced under his own production banner, headed by his ‘so-called’ adopted daughter, Honeypreet Insan.
Baba Ram Rahim followed the footsteps of Asaram Bapu, who had accumulated Rs. 10,000 crores, and finally landed in the jail on the charges of sexual assaults on the minor girls of his Ashram. Ram Rahim if not arrested, would have surely made more assets than Asaram Babu. According to one report published in Outlook India, Baba Ram Rahim’s Dera Sacha Sauda earns Rs. 16 Lakh daily in a form or revenue from the number of disciples living in Dera.
According to the reports, Ram Rahim is the third spiritual leader of Dera Sacha Sauda, which is a 69-year-old religious cult. No one attained such a huge amount of success. According to the reports published in Wikipedia Ram Rahim Singh was a successor to the Dera Sacha Sauda leader Shah Satnam Singh to whom his family used to serve for years and when Shah Satnam decided to retire, he had three contenders for the post of DSS leader but, finally Shah Satnam announced the name of Ram Rahim Sigh, who took over the responsibilities of Dera in the year 1990 at the age of 23.
Ram Rahim has various sources from where he made such a huge amount of asset and one on them is his followers. According to the report in Business World Baba has around five crore devotees (followers), and that he has sold 10 million CD’s of his album “Love Charger”. The reports further claim that Baba owns over 700 acres of agricultural land, a 175-bed hospital, plenty of gas stations, supermarket complexes, and over 250 ashrams around the world.
After becoming the leader of Dera, Ram Rahim started getting connected with the politicians and that was a major paradigm change for the Dera, and there is no doubt that where Dera is today, it all due to the efforts of Baba Ram Rahim. It is a different case of him making a wrong use of his position and the responsibility handed over to him by his Guru, Shah Satnam Singh.
