SAME SEX MARRIAGE STILL BEING ILLEGAL IN OUR COUNTRY, THIS ACT OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN TWO GUYS FROM MADHYA PRADESH WAS NOT TO SUPPORT THE LGBT RIGHTS BUT TO PLEASE THE GODS OF RAINS IN MADHYA PRADESH AS THEY ARE SET TO FACE RAIN DEFICIT.
As bizarre as it sounds, Sakaram and Rakesh tied the knot in a very traditional and big fat Indian wedding in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. It was reported that several districts would face drought. Their wedding was a symbolic gesture to please the rain gods.
The wedding was witnessed by the locals as the two of them dressed in traditional attire exchanged garlands and circled the ceremonial fire. The efficacy of such a ritual in bringing showers is doubted but it reportedly rained during the wedding. Ramesh Singh Tomar, the organizer said that Indians have taken to western culture and same sex marriages and live in relationships are now a common feature. “it gave me the idea of performing a marriage between two men as a gesture to please the gods for rainfall” he added.
Sources report that there was a ‘Proper Baraat and the usual dancing to Bollywood numbers as the marriage possession passed through the main roads of the locality. Post ritual both men returned to their wives.
Responding to reports of drought in the state, Union Minister Uma Bharati had earlier stated that her ministry has proposed to irrigate 1,71,030 hectares and 68,007 hectares of land in areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh falling in the Bundelkhand region under the incentivisation scheme for bridging irrigation gap. The scheme will benefit Jhansi, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Lalitpur, and Banda districts of Uttar Pradesh and Tikamgarh and Datia districts of Madhya Pradesh, she added.
How can a ritual like this please the God of Rain? What is the Job of Government if the people can manage to achieve what they want through the means of such type of rituals?
