As August approaches, a lot of festivities come too. Along with that come a lot of Bank holidays. As per the RBI, the banks will remain closed for a total of 15 days in August, including the weekends. Half of the month, the banks won’t be operational.
This might cause a problem to those who have bank related work daily. It is hence advised that one should check the Bank holidays before heading towards the banks as it might be closed if you randomly go.
The dates might vary in different states, but the common holidays are the same. On the first day of the month, all banks will remain closed as it’s a Sunday.
Not just holidays, but this year August also has various long weekends.

Muharram (Ashoora) on August 19, 2021, will be a bank holiday in Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, and Srinagar.
Janmashtami, which falls on August 30 will be celebrated across 15 cities including Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, and Gangtok.
For a national holiday like Independence Day, there won’t be an additional holiday as it already is on a Sunday this year. Besides that, Raksha Bandhan is also on a Sunday this time, ie, on 22nd August so that cuts for another holiday.
Even though people can’t physically go to banks on such holidays, online work can surely continue in all phases.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) categorises bank holidays in India into three categories: Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
