Irfan Khan made his mark in the Indian as well as Hollywood film Industry passed away battling with colon infection, the report said. Irfan was 53 years old when he departed from this world. The actor had been battling with rare cancer since 2018. He is survived by his wife Sutapa and sons – Babil and Ayan. The news came as a shock to the Indian film industry amid the lockdown.
According to the reports, His family issued an official statement, “I trust, I have surrendered”; These were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heartfelt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, “As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it”.
Irrfan Khan’s last film was ‘Angrezi Medium’, which hit the screens days before the lockdown was announced. His innocent portrayal of a father willing to go against all odds for his daughter was much lauded by fans. Due to the lockdown, ‘Angrezi Medium’ stopped playing in theatres and was later released on an OTT platform.
Best known for his performance in films like ‘Maqbool’ and ‘Piku’, the actor earned a National Award for his powerful act in sports drama ‘Paan Singh Tomar’. Irrfan was also globally recognised for his performance in films like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Inferno’ and ‘Life of Pi’.
Meanwhile one of the NDTV () reports, actor Irrfan Khan, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Tuesday, became the subject of a death hoax, prompting his spokesperson to release a statement, dismissing the rumours. “It’s really disappointing to know that there are extreme assumptions being made about Irrfan’s health. While we are truly appreciative that people are concerned, it’s disheartening to see some sources spread extreme rumours and creating panic,” the 53-year-old actor’s spokesperson said, reported news agency PTI.
Irrfan Khan, who was treated for a tumour last year, is currently under observation in the intensive care unit of the Mumbai hospital. He was admitted last night after a decline in his health conditions because of a colon infection. “Irrfan is a strong person and is still fighting the battle. We really request you to not fall for rumours and not partake in these conversations which are fictional,” his spokesperson added. Irrfan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in 2018.

Meanwhile, The news of his death was shared on Twitter by filmmaker Shoojit Sircar. “My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om Shanti. Irfaan Khan salute,” he wrote.
